ATHLETE'S DEVOTIONAL

Scripture:
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NIV)

Message:
Sports are full of competition, but God reminds us that the ultimate prize isn’t a trophy, medal, or scoreboard. The real victory comes from living a life that honors Him. Every sprint, every drill, and every late-night practice builds more than just skill—it builds discipline.

Winning games is exciting, but God is shaping something deeper inside of you: perseverance, self-control, and a heart that pursues Him above all else. When you compete with excellence, not just to impress others but to glorify the Lord, you’re already running the race that truly matters.

Remember, your effort is an offering. The way you respond to a tough loss, how you treat your opponents, and the consistency you show in practice can point people to Christ in ways words never could. Play hard, but more importantly, play holy.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to run the race You’ve set before me with endurance and joy. Keep my eyes on the eternal prize, not temporary rewards. May my actions, words, and attitude reflect You on and off the court. Amen.

Coach’s Challenge:
This week, compete with eternal perspective. Choose one area—your attitude in tough moments, your focus in practice, or your encouragement to others—and commit to giving it fully to God. Let your effort be your worship.

Testimonials

We don't take it for granted when a family joins our program.  Let's hear what our families are saying:

Dekeshia Alexander

When our family moved to the Houston area, we wanted a place where our kids could play competative sports while also feeling a sense of belonging. We are so thankful for the welcoming environment we found at Salt and Light. It has provided our family with the opportunity to compete, grow, and glorify God in everything we do. We couldn't be more grateful for how God led us to this wonderful community.

Jason Reeves

Our experience with the Salt and Light (S&L) homeschool basketball program has been nothing short of phenomenal for our son, Jason. From the moment he joined, it was clear this program was special.

The coaches at S&L are truly top-notch. Their dedication and expertise helped Jason not only develop his skills but also fostered a genuine love for the game that continues to grow. Beyond the fantastic coaching, S&L provided an incredible environment for Jason to meet new friends who share his passion. The camaraderie and supportive atmosphere among the players and families are truly a blessing.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the S&L program is the opportunity it gave Jason to compete against talented teams at every level—locally, regionally, and even nationally. This exposure has been invaluable for his growth and confidence as a player.

The S&L Family is awesome because GOD made it so! We are incredibly grateful for the positive impact this program has had on Jason's life, both on and off the court.
